Welcome to the latest issue of Dulcimer Sessions®!
The soul and passion of musicians is an essential ingredient in music. This issue features some splendid music for dulcimers - and the stories of the people behind it, from the authors to Scotland's Jamie Macpherson, Ireland's Turlough O'Carolan, West Virginia's mountain dulcimer bard, Alan Freeman, and multi-talented luthier John Huron.
1. "Macpherson's Farewell" for Hammered Dulcimer, by Mel Bay author Jeanne Page. In addition to her arrangement of this stirring piece of music from Scotland, Jeanne presents an exciting narrative of how it was composed ... Article includes written music, chords and sound file.
2. "John Huron, Noteworthy Instruments - Builder of Mountain Dulcimers & More" tells the story of this talented and humorous luthier, instrument inventor, musician, and teacher of new dulcimer builders. Lots of interesting photos.
3. "Turlough O'Carolan, Ireland's National Composer" by Linda Brockinton offers her lovely rendition of "Sheebeg Sheemore," in mountain dulcimer tablature, notation and sound file, that can be enjoyed and played on hammered dulcimers as well. Linda also talks about the life of Ireland's great bard.
4. My interview with "Alan Freeman, Mountain Dulcimer Player" has the story of this colorful and gifted champion mountain dulcimer player, with sound files of his playing.
