Welcome to the February 2007 issue of Dulcimer Sessions®!
Winter holidays aren't over, and this is a great time of year to practice playing techniques and learn new music. With that in mind we have for you the following articles:
- A salute to Mardi Gras Cajun-style with the arrangement of "Le Danse de Mardi Gras" from the Mel Bay book Cajun Favorites for Mountain Dulcimer. Music for mountain
and hammered dulcimers, sound file, and cultural information included.
- For Valentine's Day a great gift for a loved one would be to sing and play the beautiful "Rose of Allendale" arranged by Lance Frodsham for his Mel Bay book, English Songs and Ballads for Appalachian Dulcimer. Music for mountain and hammered dulcimers, sound file, and background information included.
- Hammered dulcimer players will have a tasty new tune to play for St. Patrick's
Day in Maggie Sansone's arrangement of "Sergeant Early's Dream" from her Mel Bay book, Celtic Mediations. She plays it slower than reel dance tempo to savor the beauty of
the melody.
- The clip from the Mel Bay video, "Learn to Play Mountain Dulcimer" by Mark Biggs is an excellent introduction if you have never tried playing the instrument before, or if
you are a new player.
Many thanks to our February issue authors. I invite hammered and mountain dulcimer players to submit articles to me for possible inclusion in a future DulcimerSessions.com. We also welcome requests for new subjects from visitors to this website.
