"Tombigbee River"
('Gum Tree Canoe') Traditional Song arranged for Mountain Dulcimer
by Lois Hornbostel
I learned this sweet minstrel song from the playing of fiddler/singer Dan Gellert, who was kind enough to send me the words. It was published in Boston in 1847. The words were written by S.S. Steele, Esq., as sung by A.F. Winnemore and his band, the "Virginia Serenaders." Arranged for the piano forte by A.F. Winnemore.
This arrangement is from my book AMERICAN FIDDLE TUNES FOR MOUNTAIN DULCIMER, published by Mel Bay. It is usually played in the Key of G, so the mountain dulcimer tuning used is DGD.
